University Housing offers many housing options for scheduled academic breaks, including Summer Housing options, Fall Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.

Summer 2026 Housing
Summer Housing residents stay on campus in one of our Residence Halls. This area has furnished air-conditioned rooms, all utilities, wireless Internet, and laundry facilities. Space is available for students with mobility impairments. Our dining halls are closed during the summer semester. All summer housing assignments will be double occupancy.

Summer Rate (May 9 - August 1): $28 per night
Extended Summer Rate (August 1 - August 12): $35 per night
Intersession Housing (May 9 - June 6)
- ELIGIBILITY: Students must be enrolled for Intersession classes or have a spring and summer housing contract on file. Students that need to stay for Intersession will be charged for the entire intersession period.
- NEW STUDENT MOVE-IN: Move-in for new students registered for intersession classes, begins on Saturday, May 9 at 9:00 am.
- CURRENT RESIDENT MOVE-IN: Current residents may begin moving from their residence hall room to their intersession assignment on Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m. Students must complete their scheduled checkout with their RA by noon on Saturday, May 9.
Summer Session Housing (June 6 – August 1)
- ELIGIBILITY: Students must be registered for at least three (3) credit hours and contract for a minimum of 30 days
Extended Summer to Fall (August 1 – August 12) ONLY AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS WITH A FALL 2026 HOUSING CONTRACT
- Students that do not have a Fall 2026 Housing contract will be required to vacate their assignment on Saturday, August 1, 2026, by 12:00 noon.
- MOVE-IN: Students with a Fall contract will be required to move from their Summer assignment to their Fall assignment on Sunday, August 2, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. There will be no exceptions to this move requirement as we must get all rooms ready for Fall 2026 move-in. Extended summer charges apply ($35 per night).
Break Housing
Fall 2025 Thanksgiving Break
Thanksgiving break is Saturday, November 22, 2025, through Saturday, November 29, 2025. The residence hall buildings will close at noon on Saturday, November 22, 2025, and reopen on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at noon.
The designated break housing hall is to be determined. Anyone requiring housing during Thanksgiving break, Winter break or Spring break must: (1) apply for Break Housing on the Housing Portal, and (2) pay additional fees for break housing.
Current on-campus housing residents experiencing housing insecurities maybe eligible to receive no cost Thanksgiving Break housing. Winter Break
Winter Break (Semester break) is December 13, 2025 – January 10, 2026. Residence hall buildings will close on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at noon. Residence hall buildings will reopen on Saturday, January 10, at 9 am.
Students who need to remain on campus during the winter break must sign up for break housing through the Housing Portal. Deadline to apply is Friday, December 5th. Break Housing for Winter Break will be in Neely Hall. Students not currently living in Neely Hall will be assigned to a double occupancy room, which means residents will have a roommate. Please remember that dining halls are not open and meals are not served during the winter break. Guests are not permitted in any building during the break periods. There is an additional charge for break housing of $35 per night and students will be billed on their Bursar account for the entire break period regardless of the number of nights a student stays in their room.

Wall & Grand and Evergreen Terrace residents have contracted for the entire academic year. Like the other apartments, W&G and ET residents maintain access to their apartments during break periods at no additional charge. Please note University services may be reduced or unavailable during the break periods.
Students who do not plan to return to SIU for the Spring 2026 semester should make arrangements with their RA to properly check out of their residence hall room before departing SIU at the end of the fall semester.
Spring Break
